I have trekked Savandurga twice before. I decided to take the count to 4 by climbing the hill twice again during two consecutive weekends. This was meant to be a warm up exercise for my Himalayalan trek that is coming up soon.
I trekked up the Savandurga hill on the 25th of September and the 2nd of October. On my first trip, I was accompanied by my cousin Naresh and two new friends - Abhilash and Raj. The second trip was solo.
Savandurga (1226m) is situated approximately 50km from Bangalore. It is one of the largest monolith hills in Asia. Savandurga comprises of two hills - Billigudda and Karigudda. The most commonly scaled hill is Billigudda. The trail begins next to the temple at the base.
Savandurga Trail can be divided into few stretches and most of them are steep climbs which makes this trek a moderate to difficult climb for amateurs. You can take anywhere from 1 to 2.5 hours to climb this peak depending on your stamina.
But your hard work will be rewarded with refreshing breeze and spectacular views from the summit. On my first trip, we sat on the summit and enjoyed some soulful music by Abhilash.
On our way back, we stopped at Sumukha Grand opposite Dodda Aladamara. Their vegetable kofta is delicious.
The second trip to Savandurga was solo and was meant to be timed. I did a non-stop climb in just 55 minutes.
For a quick, tough and refreshing workout in the wilderness, head to Savandurga.
Looks like very interesting trekking experience. Looking forward to reading your blog post about your forthcoming Himalayan trekking trip.
